    Here's my 2022 Vegan Gift Guide!

    I've put together a list of vegan cookbooks, kitchen gadgets, vegan food products and homemade vegan food gifts, so we have a good selection to suit different tastes and budgets.

    Vegan cookbooks

    1. Flying Apron's Gluten-Free & Vegan Baking Book by Jennifer Katzinger

    What makes this book stand out to me is the unique and unusual ingredients: blueberry cinnamon scones made with brown rice flour and chickpea flour, oaty biscuits made with teff flour and a pie crust made with cornmeal and ground pine nuts.

    2. Thug Kitchen Party Grub: For Social Motherf*ckers (Thug Kitchen Cookbooks)

    A huge assortment of party food recipes with a dose of good humour takes all the stress out of entertaining.

    3. Vegan: The Cookbook by Jean-Christian Jury

    I love how comprehensive this book is as it boasts more than 450 recipes from more than 150 countries. The book is divided into starters, salads, soups, main courses, grains and beans, pasta and noodles and desserts, with each section featuring recipes categorised by country. The cuisines are varied and diverse, including dishes from Moldova, Papua New Guinea and Suriname.

    4. Veganize It!: Easy DIY Recipes for a Plant-Based Kitchen by Robin Robertson

    This book has so many classic favourites such as bacon-topped mac and cheese, French toast, pepperoni, clam chowder and fish and chips. I love the how-to section, which includes recipes for pantry staples such as nut milks, yogurt, mayonnaise, butter and cheeses.

    5. Vegan BBQ by Nadine Horn and Jörg Mayer

    The book includes a helpful guide with tips and tricks for meat-free BBQing, and features everything from burgers and hotdogs to kebabs and pizza, as well as side dishes and salads. There's a particularly good section on homemade vegan sauces, including flavoured butters, salsas and different types of BBQ sauce.

    6. Vegan Christmas: Over 70 Amazing Recipes for the Festive Season by Gaz Oakley

    The ultimate guide to a vegan Christmas, including seriously comforting recipes for Christmas wellington, "turkey" roast, "no pigs" in blankets and Yorkshire pudding!

    7. River Cottage Much More Veg: 175 delicious plant-based vegan recipes by Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall

    The most amazing collection of vegetable dishes - getting your 5-a-day will never seem boring again! There's everything from soups and salads to roast veg, raw dishes, mezze and tapas.

    8. Vegan Recipes from the Middle East by Parvin Razavi

    A huge variety of flavourful recipes spanning the cuisines of Iran, Armenia, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and Turkey.

    9. BOSH!: Simple Recipes * Amazing Food * All Plants

    This book is perfect if you're in search of easy, fun, crowd-pleasing recipes, and includes everything from breakfasts and party food to dinners, desserts and cocktails. I particularly recommend this if you're trying to get some carnivores on board with your plant-based lifestyle.

    10. The Homemade Vegan Pantry: The Art of Making Your Own Staples by Miyoko Schinner

    A seriously comprehensive guide to making your own vegan versions of pantry staples, with everything from vegan yogurt, to cheeses, sauces and dressings.

    11. Vegan Bible by Marie Laforêt

    A truly exhaustive cookbook with over 500 vegan recipes - perfect both for those dabbling in a plant-based diet and for long-time vegans looking for inspiration.

    12. The Superfun Times Vegan Holiday Cookbook: Entertaining for Absolutely Every Occasion by Isa Chandra Moskowitz

    The perfect guide to vegan entertaining, this book contains over 250 seasonal recipes including finger food, casseroles, cakes, cookies and pies, spanning every occasion from New Year's to Valentine's Day, Easter, Passover and Cinco de Mayo.

    13. This Cheese is Nuts!: Delicious Vegan Cheese at Home by Julie Piatt

    Just because you've given up dairy doesn't mean you have to give up cheese! And nothing proves that more than this incredible cookbook which includes so many expert tips and tricks and recipes for everything from a basic cheese spread to an Aged Cheddar. There are also recipes for ways to use the cheese, including Raw Beet Ravioli with Cashew Truffle Cream.

    18. Easy Dinner Recipes by Rhian's Recipes

    This one is mine! It's a digital cookbook with 30 dinner recipes that haven't been posted anywhere on the blog. They're all vegan, gluten-free and refined sugar free and made using simple, plant-based ingredients. There's also a detailed introduction explaining the ingredients I use, how to prepare them and tons of cooking tips.

    Kitchen gadgets

    1. Instant Pot

    Everyone seems to have jumped on the pressure cooker bandwagon recently, and for good reason! This Instant Pot is so useful for speedy cooking and can be used for everything from cooking beans from scratch, to making curries, soups, rice dishes and even desserts.

    2. Crock-Pot Slow Cooker

    A slow cooker is another handy kitchen appliance, and is perfect for busy cooks because you can just dump in all the ingredients, set it and forget it. You can use it for everything from soups, curries and mashed potatoes to oatmeal, desserts and drinks.

    3. NutriBullet Blender

    A must for anyone into healthy food - handy for making smoothies, milkshakes or blending up soaked cashews to make cashew cream! It also makes a beautiful addition to your kitchen counter!

    4. Tofu Press

    A great present to buy for tofu lovers and tofu sceptics alike - transform your tofu and vastly improve its texture by getting rid of the extra water.

    5. Juicer

    This juicer is perfect for anyone who wants to start a health kick. I've had this juicer for a year now and it's been super reliable. It's a “slow juicer” which helps extract more nutrients from the fruits and vegetables. There's a large hole at the top, which means you don’t have to chop up your fruit and veg too small, making the whole process quicker and easier. The juice comes out super smooth and perfectly thick, and the taste is the best out of all the different homemade juices I've tried!

    6. Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR with 18-55mm STM Lens

    This isn't necessarily a kitchen gadget, but a great gift for anyone wanting to get into food photography. I use this camera to take all of my photos and videos, and love that it’s light and compact (so travels well). I’d really recommend it as it’s budget-friendly for a DSLR and the lens has quite a wide range so works well for both overhead shots and close-ups. It also works well for food videos as it has all the necessary features and the wide range of the lens is useful.

    7. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens

    This lens is great for those who want to upgrade their food photography - it's great for close-up shots as it’s fixed at 50mm. What I love most is that it has a wide aperture of 1.8 which means the photos I take look bright even if it’s pretty dark outside. It also means you can choose one aspect of the frame to focus sharply on, whilst the rest of the image will be blurred. This lens is also very reasonably priced.

    Vegan food

    1. Booja Booja Dairy Free Hazelnut Crunch Chocolate Truffles

    Just because you're vegan doesn't mean you can't enjoy fancy, indulgent chocolates, and these hazelnut truffles by Booja Booja are just that!

    2. Pukka - Christmas Advent Calendar - Selection of Green, Herbal and Fruit Tea

    Most advent calendars contain dairy, but this herbal and fruit tea advent calendar is a great way to get round that - what better than being surprised by a nice herbal tea!

    3. Nutritional Yeast

    If you're buying a gift for a vegan you can't go wrong with nutritional yeast! It works well to create a 'cheesy' flavour in dishes but also works as a parmesan substitute to be sprinkled on top of a dish at the end. It also contains lots of nutrients and is a good source of B vitamins.

    4. Cashew Nuts

    Cashew nuts are a staple in vegan cooking and baking, so you can't go wrong with these either! They’re delicious on their own or can be added to curries and stir fries, but are also amazing when blended. Blended cashew nuts can be used to make everything from vegan cheese, mayonnaise, Alfredo pasta sauce, chocolate truffles or buttercream. They’re super versatile and the possibilities are endless.

    5. Japanese Chilli Oil

    Get this for your favourite spicy food lover! Out of all the chilli oils and sauces I’ve tried, this Japanese chilli oil is by far my favourite. It’s so much better than normal chilli oil as it’s made using sesame oil, which gives it so much extra flavour. You can use it to top curries, pizza, hummus, ramen and creamy pasta dishes!

    6. Shichimi (Japanese seven-spice powder)

    A fun novelty ingredient, Shichimi is made using 7 ingredients: red pepper, sansho pepper, roasted orange peel, black sesame seeds, white sesame seeds, seaweed and ginger. It has a truly kaleidoscopic flavour profile with aromatic, spicy, nutty and sweet flavours. Use it as a topping for soups, pasta dishes, noodle dishes or even avocado toast!
