This 3-ingredient Kinako Latte is a great alternative to hot chocolate as it’s rich and comforting without being too sweet, and a fab caffeine-free option if you’re tired of herbal tea.
Kinako, which means “yellow flour” in Japanese, is roasted soybean flour (so it’s gluten-free), and is widely used in Japanese cuisine.
Kinako is traditionally used in Japanese sweet treats such as mochi, but I like to use it for lots of things such as:
It lends a lovely rich, nutty and naturally sweet flavour and is also really healthy as it’s full of protein and B vitamins. You can buy kinako in Asian supermarkets.
You can use whatever milk you like for this Kinako Latte, but I personally like to use unsweetened cashew or almond milk. You could even enjoy this drink without any added sugar as kinako has a naturally sweet flavour, but you can add any sweetener you like.
This latte can be enjoyed hot or cold! I had mine steaming hot and frothed it up with the aid of my newly purchased hand-held milk foamer – I highly recommend you get one too. They’re really cheap yet somehow manage to bring so much joy.
