Some of these recipes use pumpkin purรฉe, which can be a challenge to find if you don't live in the US. In the UK you can usually find it in larger supermarkets, usually either the tinned fruit section or the "world foods" section. You can also find it online.
Yes - you can absolutely make it yourself! The best way to do this is:
- Halve the pumpkin.
- Scoop out the seeds.
- Bake in an oven at 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for around 45 minutes - it will depend on the type and size of the pumpkin, but it needs to be baked until the pumpkin is soft enough to gently pierce with a fork and it's coming away from the skin slightly.
- Scoop the flesh out of the pumpkin into a food processor, discarding the skins.
- Whizz until completely smooth.
It keeps covered in the fridge for up to a few days and in the freezer for a month.
Yes! If you can't get hold of pumpkin, it can generally be replaced with butternut squash or sweet potato.
