This Red Wine Hot Chocolate is rich, creamy and so comforting. The fruity aroma of the red wine perfectly compliments the rich, earthy flavour of the dark chocolate. The perfect drink for Thanksgiving, Christmas and the festive season!
Tips for making this recipe
- Make sure you make the hot chocolate with real dark chocolate, not hot chocolate powder.
- Make sure you make a really thick hot chocolate (by using dark chocolate and cornflour (cornstarch) to thicken), otherwise when it gets watered down with the red wine, it'll be super watery.
- Don't add too much red wine, or you won't be able to taste the chocolate at all and you'll just be drinking milky red wine, which nobody wants.

- Place the dark chocolate, cocoa powder, maple syrup, cornflour (cornstarch) and milk in a saucepan and mix well.
Tip: It’s important that it’s mixed together before heating so that the cornflour is distributed evenly and doesn't clump up - you can use a balloon whisk to do this.
- Cook on a low heat, stirring regularly, until steaming hot and nicely thickened.
- Add a splash of red wine to taste.
- Pour into a cup and enjoy immediately!
How to make it vegan
- I'd recommend using cashew milk, oat milk or coconut milk, as these seem to work best to create a seriously creamy, undetectably dairy-free hot chocolate.
- Make sure the dark chocolate you use is dairy-free.
- To check whether your wine is vegan, you can use the website barnivore.com.

I'll try making this tomorrow night. I'll make sure to concoct it perfectly so I can surprise my family on Thanksgiving. I love eating chocolates with liquor in it. I also like chocolate with peppermint. That's why last year, also in Thanksgiving I made my family a Chocolate Peppermint Bomb Drink. And they all loved it. But that drink only took me 3 days to make it perfectly. However, this recipe needs more dedication to make, so it will be special.

It is looking great. And you know what is more surprising, you are! I mean, you can speak four different languages and you also wrote a book. This is the most surprising thing I have seen today. Not all young girls are like that skilled. Well, thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.
